About
Susan Marie White is an artist whose practice is rooted in photography, including a fascination with hair, gathered from her children after haircuts in her driveway. Her work investigates personal narratives surrounding intimacy, identity, memory, and loss.
After she earned a degree in mathematics and pursued a career in technology, she shifted her focus to creative endeavors. She graduated as a Director's Fellow from the Creative Practices program at the International Center of Photography (NYC, 2021). As a community member and parent of children with special needs, she works to support other families with similar challenges to navigate the public school system. In 2018, she earned a certificate in Family Empowerment Advocacy to deepen her support for her children and her community.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the Centrum Wielokulturowe in Warsaw, Poland. In 2023, she contributed to the project Huq: I Seek No Favor, founded and curated by Ashima Yadava, which includes a printed publication and continues to be shown in galleries around the United States. Recent group exhibitions include Whisper! at Verum Ultimum Art Gallery in Portland, Oregon and PAUSE at Art League Rhode Island Gallery. She self-published her first zine, The Last Thing I See is Sky, (2023), followed by her first handmade artist’s book, Even This, (2024), a study of remedy while living with chronic illness.
Susan works from her home studio in the Lower Hudson Valley, NY.
